Made in New York was a spotlight in the fashion retail world on September 17th launched by Caroline Rodehau Publisher and team at New York Girl Style, one of our favorites top brands participated in the campaign: Betsey Johnson stores in Manhattan. The ones were providing a special discount to the Made in New York customers, while they enjoyed the trendy edgy vibe of Betsey Johnson popular Fall 2009 Collection. The customers were excited and the environment was buzzing with savvy shoppers.
Some people may think that she is a total eccentric; others may well consider that she’s one of the most original designers out there. The truth is, that Betsey Johnson has been one of the most talked-about and remarkable designers out there for three long decades now.
With a low-profiled start in the sixties, the young designer member of Andy Warhol’s studio called The Factor; decided to move to Mexico, and rented a small apartment in New York City as she needed an operational spot. She always explains that her first initiative was to paint the condo in a very minimalist white color. But then, she realized that she needed her family photos, antiques (as she is a devotee), endless decorations and pink walls in order to feel comfortable and cheerful. Since then, the inspiration started to grow greater.
The platinum fanciful blonde’s designs are hard-edged, punk/rock/kitsch-influenced, yet super feminine and extravagant. Garments which have been the most fun, colorful and out of this word since the sixties.
She is a breast cancer survivor (and matter supporter) and also a former ballerina, so Betsy knows with perfection how the woman body fits clothes, and what female public wants. Always answering to customer’s needs and respecting her own outrageous essence, through the years, she built an empire in woman’s apparel which is one of the trendiest and most powerful in our time.
Her last Spring/Summer 2010 RTW collection, showed a new visual direction for the brand. Establishing a never-seen side of the designer, the line included very elegant, neat and sophisticated pieces with wonderful lines and silhouettes. Fabulous girlie party dresses, great shoes, few liberty-flowered patterns, tulle, and beautiful pink, blue and white accents, made a great mix… Demonstrating, once more, she is the rocking-peculiar runway queen, just very…Betsey!
