On September 15th fashionistas and industry trendsetters from all over came together to attend Made in New York  - a launch created by New York Girl Style, to support fashion and retail that is found throughout our city. This event, which occurred during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, was a kickoff celebration for the shopping event that later occurred on September 17th. The backdrop for this night out was the Gansevoort Hotel, a lavish downtown hotspot that is not only known for their superb hospitality but also their chic decor. VH1’s Libby Keatinge (The Fab Life) hosted the rooftop cocktail reception as well as a fashion presentation, which showcased a beautiful array of evening wear. Designers, such as Kati Stern Venexiana, dazzled their audience with their gorgeous models and their beautiful designs.

NY Fashion Week Coverage: Alexander Wang, the M.O.D. guy

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

New York Girl Style was at Mercedes Benz NY Fashion Week SS 2010 shows at Bryant park to capture the buzz of the runway shows. One of our favorite designers, Alexander Wang, presented a show which was innovative and inspiring.

With a blueprint of flawlessly crafted designs, simple lines and clean colors, this young man just took over our eyes and hearts since his first collection back in 2007.

The former Parson’s fashion design student and Teen Vogue intern just managed to take the industry on the palm of his hands. By a mixture of grunge, rock and a touch of darkness, he is making all us love the model-of- duty street style, which is hitting magazines and tabloids all over the globe.

He’s washed-up glamour just feeds the taste and standards the industry is looking for: new, fresh and retailing. And Wang truly knows how to make things to be sold out and adored, as reflected on his line of 2008, which has being chosen from fashionistas to celebrities till today. These days, he just showed off this talent once again on his ready-to-wear Spring Summer 2010  collection at Mercedes Benz NY Fashion Week, and demonstrated his gift is still on.

We own him the obsession of the ripped tights and boyfriend jeans, big shorts, oversized blazers, big basic tees and T-shirt dresses, not to mention the gorgeous high heels which give the perfect touch needed to compliment the homeless chic appeal.

Also, he holds the plus of the exposition linked to going out-and-about along with his beloved muse/pal Erin Wasson, which provably takes him to the pedestal of the New York cool kid we all love to keep on amazing us.

New York Girl Style is proud to present the launch of the MADE IN NEW YORK campaign created to support Fashion and Retail in New York City. Hosted by Libby Keatinge from VH1’s TheFabLife.com.

NYGS can only describe working with Charles Nolan for the MADE IN NEW YORK campaign as a complete honor. As an FIT graduate and New York native, Nolan is the perfect example of someone who was truly “Made” in New York. After earning his degree at FIT, Nolan went on to intern for  Bill Blass and Christian Dior, among others. From there, he became chief designer at Ellen Tracy in 1990, and through out his run converted the brand from an alright clothing manufacturer to an outstanding fashion label. After a six year run at the top of it’s market, Charles Nolan left the brand in 2001. Soon after, the parent of Anne Klein caught wind of his talent and hired him to bring the almost bankrupt label back into the limelight. Nolan did just that and before long, the newly redeemed brand was sold for $163 million. When Charles Nolan left Anne Klein it was major news. Stories ran in the New York Times, Page Six, and even as banner headline news in Women’s Wear Daily. Charles Nolan was finally ready to work for himself. September 2004, his cardinal line CHARLES NOLAN debuted with a bang  and opened with six windows at Saks Fifth Avenue. Today you can find his chic creations at his namesake store in the Meatpacking District or in his online store, http://www.shopcharlesnolan.com/.

For access to the polished looks of Charles Nolan and many other New York based designers RSVP the MADE IN NEW YORK Shop Event on September 17th, 2009. Details of event location will be posted on the  www.newyorkgirlstyle.com events page. Join us and celebrate Made in New York 2009.
