On February 13 some of the industry’s chicest fashionista’s gathered to witness one of the most extravagant shows of the season, Venexiana Fall 2009.  The show was held at the tents in Bryant Park and of course New York Girl Style was there to cover the show.  Kati Stern truly outdid herself as she treated spectators to a show filled with lavish fabrics and intricate designs inspired by Venice, Italy, the home of famed textile designer Mariano Fortuny. The highlights were too many to count. There were lush fur stoles and baroque jackets adorned with trims of fox and mink. A bevy of  stunning evening gowns were sent down the runway embellished with metallic sequins and hand beading.

The final look was an opulent Lyone lace couture wedding gown covered in Swarovski crystals. Venexiana was definitely one of the stand out shows for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 2009.

On January 29, 2009, the 12th annual FGI Rising Star Luncheaon was held at the Rainbow Room in New York City. FGI is an organization that honors and supports the creativity and acumen of the emerging young talents, destined to ensure the growth and future of fashion related industries. Twenty-six year old winner Christian Cota launched his impressive line in 2007; one which balances elegance with detail, blending organic forms and clean shapes for an edgier and expressionistic aesthetic.

Cota’s passion for design is evident in his detail driven fabrics and innovative hand embroideries. Among the presenters this year were Philip Lim, Tory Burch and Jane Lauder. Last years women’s wear winner was Jason Wu, recently acclaimed for designing Michelle Obama Inaugural Gala gown. Cota will be presenting his Fall 09 Collection on February 13th 2009.
